Wide range of glazing solutions from the experts in Thame

Windmill Windows offer a full array of glazing options from our standard ‘A’ rated glass units to top end bespoke make up of units to meet specific requirements such as noise, thermal, strength or solar performance using either double or triple glazed units. These can be made using clear glass or our choice of obscure glass options available which are shown below.

As well as the makeup of the glazing units themselves we offer a full range of decorative options including Astragal bars, Georgian bars, Lead and Integrated blinds within the units themselves which can be incorporated into all the products we offer.

Our standard double glazed units comprise of an outer pane of glass then a thermal warm edge spacer bar and then an inner pane of low-E coated glass for thermal performance. The space between these two panes is then hermetically sealed with 90% argon gas 10% air. This make up creates our standard ‘A’ rated unit with a u-value of 1.2.

Below shows the standard options for various performance requirements but we can adjust all options by using a variety of makeup of different types of pane of glass to meet any requirements necessary.

Solar control

We use Pilkington Solar Control Active Self Cleaning glass for all our conservatory roofs as standard. This provides both solar & energy protection of around 50% whilst also providing a self-cleaning property by applying a metallic coating onto the outside surface of the glass. This harnesses the power of both the sun and rain to efficiently remove dirt and grime such as dried water marks, dust, resin and insect residues. It will always be easier to clean and it will stay cleaner for longer. It is an excellent choice for areas of glazing that are hard to reach like roof areas.

Safety

Safety glass is mandatory in some areas of the home, all roofs as well as throughout some types of buildings such as schools. For all these areas toughened or laminated glass is used. Toughened glass is created by going through a heating process making it around 5 times tougher than standard glass whereas laminated glass comprises a laminated layer sandwiched between two pieces of glass allowing any broken fragments of glass on breakage to remain bonded together. For oversized panes, we may use 6mm or even 8mm panes of glass as opposed to the normal 4mm which creates an even tougher unit.

Acoustic

For areas where noise reduction is a priority we use a 6.8mm acoustic laminated inner pane. These are used widely in urban environments or even in our secondary glazing when trying to improve the acoustic properties of single glazed period properties.
